The archive of what I posted on Twitter, which I now self host due to a lack of trust in Twitter and some other reasons.

I'll soon begin refelcting all my Mastodon posts here too. I'm happier self-hosting or maintaining an archive of my content on URLs that I can own.

There are tools to help you do this too. Such as this one from the makers of Eleventy.

@ChrisFerdinandi @Netlify @smashingmag Yeah, that's typically the compromise. E-commerce as a PE. It depends on the service you integrate with.

Although you could proxy to Lambda and do all custom queries and return populated views w/o javascript to get best of both!

Hint: check out the Netlify Functions alpha!

@nvreez Privacy, sensitivity and respect are, of course paramount in my AMA. That being said:

"Which would you rather fight: one horse-sized duck, or 100 duck-sized horses?"

Thinking hard, and being nervous whenever there is a knock at the door.

Either some of the questions being sent to https://www.hawksworx.com/ask-me/ are intended to be hypothetical, or the future has some cruel jokes up its sleeve for me.

@ChrisFerdinandi @zachleat @Netlify @smashingmag I hear you!

There is a helpful community on @gitchat - https://gitter.im/netlify/community

Or if you are signed in to Netlify, the @intercom support tool is a great way to reach us and have the support team get context of what you're trying.

@ChrisFerdinandi @Netlify @digitalocean That's a luxury of #JAMstack sites. Super portable so you can move them around to wherever suits you best. Meanwhile if you're planning to keep WP for just purchase/auth'd content for now, Netlify's CDN can proxy any paths to external services. Just FYI.

Note to self: Learn more @gohugo which makes things like this easy (when you know how)

2nd note to self: Branch deploys on @Netlify used to feel like a luxury. Now I can't imagine being without them. https://twitter.com/philhawksworth/status/952147565113376768

@ChrisFerdinandi @zachleat Gotcha!

It sounds to me like some case studies on how and why @smashinmagazine moved all their membership content, subscriptions, identity, and ecommerce to #JAMstack on @Netlify could not come soon enough.

Good tip about putting the @GoHugoIO version in your netlfiy.toml. And noting that you could even run different versions for different build contexts if you were developing against a snazzy new version that you're not yet ready to use in production

@ChrisFerdinandi @zachleat Even so, I'm looking forward to seeing how you got on dabbling with static sites :)

Also interested to learn what you're using WP to do which can't be done on the #JAMstack.

One of these days we'll get to have a proper chinwag about the possibilities, limitations and surprises.

Delighted to see how @austintexasgov is avoiding vendor & technology lock-in by exploring #JAMstack & #HeadlessCMS approaches to managing & publishing content.

This thoughtful article by @MateoClarke nicely shares the thinking behind that. Looking forward to seeing the progress. https://twitter.com/MateoClarke/status/951130759322095617

@calavera @Eiskis @Netlify @contentful I trigger lots of builds for one of my sites though @contentful. Although @Netlify's build scheduler is smart, my build notifications felt healthier after configuring Contentful to fire the build hooks only on publish events, instead of saves (which were after most keystrokes)
